Description
The barred blenny is a small, scaleless blenny (Blenniidae) from the western Atlantic, around Bermuda and the southeastern United States. The species grows to about 10 cm and has a stocky, brown-mottled body with a few dark crossbars and fringe-like tufts (cirri) above the eyes. As a bottom-dweller it shelters in crevices, empty shells and on oyster beds of shallow coastal water and rasps algae or snaps small invertebrates. The fish is harmless to humans.
