Description
Gunther's notothen is an Antarctic notothen (Nototheniidae) from cold waters of the southwest Atlantic, around the Falkland Islands. The species grows to about 25 cm and has an elongate, grey-brown body with yellowish fins. Adapted to cold water with natural antifreeze compounds, it lives in schools over rocky and sandy bottoms and eats small crustaceans, worms and zooplankton. It is a commercial food fish. The fish is harmless to humans.
