The species grows to about 10 cm and has an elongate, yellow-brown body with fine dark markings, barbels and conspicuously thick, fleshy lips. As a bottom-dweller it lives in clear, flowing streams and rasps growth and searches for small invertebrates and larvae. The fish is harmless to humans.
