Description
The shorttail catfish is a small African catfish of the loach-catfish family (Amphiliidae). The species reaches only about 8.5 cm and has a strongly elongate, slender body covered with small bony plates and tapering into a thin caudal peduncle. Using its downward-pointing mouth and barbels it searches the bottom of flowing waters for small aquatic insects and larvae. The species lives concealed among stones and gravel and is mainly nocturnal. It has no commercial value and is harmless to humans.
