The shortsnout filefish is a filefish (Monacanthidae) from coastal waters of the Indo-West Pacific. The species grows to about 11 cm and has a laterally compressed, brown-grey body with a rough skin, a short snout and an erectile spine above the head. As a bottom-oriented fish it lives over sand and seagrass bottoms and snaps at small invertebrates and algae. The fish is harmless to humans.
