Description
The Modest filefish is a filefish or leatherjacket (Monacanthidae) from coastal waters of the Indo-West Pacific. The species grows to about 25 cm and has an elongate, laterally compressed body with a rough, file-like skin and an erectable first dorsal spine. As a slow swimmer it lives over reef, sand and weed bottoms and snaps at small invertebrates, algae and zooplankton. The fish is harmless to humans.
