Description
Schlegel's red bass is a handsomely coloured anthias-like fish from the northwest Pacific and adjacent waters. The species grows to about 35 cm and has a streamlined, pink to red body; males have yellow and blue accents. As a schooling fish it lives over deeper reef and rocky bottoms, between about 50 and 200 metres, and filters zooplankton from the open water. Like many anthias it is a protogynous hermaphrodite. The fish is harmless to humans. The IUCN has not evaluated the species.
