Description
The spotted sand catlet is a very small African catfish of the loach-catfish family (Amphiliidae). The species reaches only about 4 cm and has an elongate, spotted body well suited to its lifestyle: by day it buries itself in sandy bottoms of shallow waters with only its eyes protruding above the sand. There it feeds on minute bottom organisms. The species lays only a few, notably large eggs, which may indicate a form of parental care. It is completely harmless to humans.
