Description
The sailfin anthias is a small anthias (Serranidae) from deeper reef water of the western Pacific. The species grows to about 8 cm and has a stocky, orange-pink body; the male carries a strikingly high, sail-like dorsal fin that he spreads during courtship. As a day-active fish it hovers in small groups above coral rubble and steep slopes and snaps at zooplankton in the current. Like many anthias a female can change sex. The fish is harmless to humans.
