Description
Vaillant's gudgeon is a cyprinid from fresh water of East Asia, mainly in China. The species grows to about 23 cm and has an elongate body with a flattened belly, an inferior, fleshy mouth and a pair of barbels. As a bottom-dweller it searches over sand and gravel bottoms of flowing rivers for small invertebrates, algae and detritus, which it sifts from the bottom with its mouth. The fish is harmless to humans. The IUCN assesses the species as Least Concern (LC).
