Description

The Twee River redfin is a small cyprinid (Cyprinidae) found only in the Twee River system of the South African Cape. The species grows to about 10 cm and has a slender, bronze-silver body with reddish fins and two pairs of short barbels. It lives in clear, rocky mountain streams and eats small invertebrates, algae and detritus. Because of its very restricted range, introduced predatory fish and water use, the species is critically endangered. The fish is harmless to humans.
