Description
The sand sole is a flatfish of the righteye flounder family (Pleuronectidae) from the eastern Pacific off the west coast of North America. The species grows to about 60 cm and has a flattened, oval body with both eyes on the right side and a sand-coloured, finely dark-speckled upper surface that camouflages it on the bottom. It inhabits sandy bottoms of coastal waters, where it partly buries itself. As a bottom predator it feeds on fishes, worms, crustaceans and molluscs. It is a valued food fish and is harmless to humans.
