Description
The ornate wobbegong is a wobbegong or carpet shark (Orectolobidae) from coastal waters of Australia. The species grows to about 2.9 metres and has a flattened, broad body with a handsome network pattern of brown saddles and fringe-like skin lobes around the mouth, with which it camouflages perfectly on reef and rocky bottoms. As a nocturnal ambush hunter it lies motionless and seizes passing fish and crustaceans. It bites fiercely if stepped on or grabbed; caution is advised.
