Description
The spotted wobbegong is a carpet shark (Orectolobidae) from coastal waters of Australia. The species grows to about 3.2 metres and has a broad, strongly flattened body with a marbled pattern of brown and yellow blotches and skin fringes around the mouth, a perfect camouflage on the bottom. As an ambush hunter it lies motionless on rocky reefs by day and seizes fish, crustaceans and octopus at night. It bites fiercely if grabbed or stepped on; remain cautious.
