Description
The Oman garra is a cyprinid (Cyprinidae) from fresh water of mountain streams and wadis of Oman and the United Arab Emirates. The species grows to about 7 cm and has an elongate body with an underslung, sucker-like mouth disc with which it clings to stones and rasps growth. Some isolated cave populations even include blind, colourless forms. As a bottom-dweller it lives in fast-flowing, clear streams and grazes algae and diatoms. The fish is harmless to humans.
