Description
The twoline knifefish is a small knifefish (Hypopomidae) from fresh water of the Amazon and Orinoco basins in South America. The species grows to about 12 cm and has an elongate, tapering body with a long anal fin and fine longitudinal lines. It generates a weak electric field to navigate and hunt in turbid water. As a nocturnal bottom-dweller it searches among roots and leaf litter for insect larvae and small invertebrates. The fish is harmless to humans.
