Description

The Juan Fernandez rockcod is a morid cod (Moridae) from coastal and slope waters around the Juan Fernandez Islands in the southeast Pacific. The species grows to about 40 cm and has a stocky, red-brown body with large eyes and a chin barbel. As a bottom-oriented fish it shelters among deeper rocks and snaps at small crustaceans, molluscs and small fish. The fish is harmless to humans.
