Description
The Investigator perchlet is a small sea bass (Serranidae) from deeper sand and reef water of the Indo-West Pacific. The species grows to about 12 cm and has an elongate, red-pink to silvery body with fine spots and large eyes. As a bottom-oriented fish it rests on soft bottoms of the continental slope and darts out at small crustaceans and small fish. Like many sea basses it is hermaphroditic. The fish is harmless to humans.
