Description

The leopard mandarin fish is an Asian perch (Sinipercidae) from East Asia. The species has a stocky body with a large mouth and a brown-yellow ground colour strewn with numerous dark, round leopard spots. It lives near the bottom in clear rivers, streams and lakes, often among rocks and vegetation. As an ambush predator it takes fishes and large crustaceans. It is a valued food fish. The species is harmless to humans.
