Description
The frecklebelly madtom is a small madtom catfish (Ictaluridae) from fresh water of the southeastern United States. The species grows to about 10 cm and has a stocky, yellow-brown body with dark saddle blotches, barbels and an adipose fin fused to the tail fin. As a nocturnal bottom-dweller it shelters by day among gravel and wood of clear streams. The pectoral spines carry venom and can cause a painful sting; handle with care.
