Description

The elongate glass perchlet is a glassfish (Ambassidae) from South Asia. The species has an elongate, strongly translucent body through which the spine and the swim bladder are visible. It inhabits both standing and running fresh water: clear streams, canals, ponds and flooded rice fields. It lives in schools and feeds on small zooplankton, insect larvae and small invertebrates. It is abundant in the rainy season. The species is harmless to humans.
