Description

Dules auriga is a fish of the family Serranidae from the southwestern Atlantic, along the coast of southern Brazil, Uruguay and Argentina. The species reaches about 20 cm and has an elongate, brownish to silvery body with dark cross-bands and spiny fins. It lives demersally to benthopelagically over rocky and sandy bottoms, at depths of about 15 to 135 m. The diet consists of small fishes and crustaceans. Owing to its bottom-associated life in cool coastal water the species is little studied and little detailed information is available on its reproduction.
