The common silverbiddy is a small coastal fish of the family Gerreidae from the Indo-West Pacific. The species grows to about 20 cm and has a deep, bright silvery body with a far-protrusible, downward mouth. It inhabits estuaries, harbours and coastal waters to fairly deep water along the shore, and is strongly associated with places of freshwater inflow. The fish gathers in schools and searches the soft bottom with its protrusible mouth for small invertebrates.
