Description
The Barna baril is a slender cyprinid from South Asia, occurring in India, Nepal, Bangladesh and Myanmar and in the Mekong basin. The species grows to about 15 cm and has a silvery body with a row of dark cross-bars. It lives in clear hill streams with gravelly bottoms and in larger rivers, in schools, and feeds omnivorously on small invertebrates and plant matter. The fish is harmless to humans and is assessed as Least Concern (LC) by the IUCN.
