Description

The Yunnan barb is a cyprinid (Cyprinidae) from clear, flowing rivers of Yunnan in southern China. The species grows to about 29 cm and has a streamlined, silvery body with a few dark crossbars and an inferior mouth with barbels. As a bottom-oriented omnivore it rasps algae from stones and eats invertebrates, plant material and detritus. It is a local food fish. The fish is harmless to humans.
