The silver splitfin is a deepwater seabass (Acropomatidae) of sand and mud bottoms of the continental slope in the western Atlantic. The species grows to about 12 cm and has an elongate, silvery body with large eyes and two dorsal fins. As a bottom-oriented fish of deeper water it snaps at small crustaceans, small fish and worms just above the sediment. The fish is harmless to humans.
