Description
Randall's assessor is a small longfin (Plesiopidae) from shallow reef water of the western Pacific. The species grows to about 6 cm and has a stocky, yellow-brown to orange body with fine blue lines and rounded fins. Remarkably it often swims upside down, belly to the ceiling, under overhanging reef and in caves. As a mouthbrooder the male protects the eggs in his mouth; it snaps at small zooplankton. The fish is harmless to humans.
