Description
The torrent minnow is a mountain-stream fish (Psilorhynchidae) from fast-flowing, clear fresh water of South Asia. The species grows to about 6 cm and has a flattened, streamlined body with a flat belly and broad, horizontal pectoral fins with which it presses itself to the bottom against the current. As a bottom-dweller it lives among gravel and stones of oxygen-rich rivers and rasps algae, biofilm and small invertebrates. The fish is harmless to humans.
