Description

The blue lampeye is a lampeye (Procatopodidae) from slow-flowing forest streams and rivers of West Africa. The species grows to about 5 cm and has a slender, iridescent blue-green body with a strikingly glowing eye-ring and yellow fin edges. As a social, surface-oriented fish it swims in schools in clear water and snaps at mosquito larvae, small plankton and small invertebrates. The fish is harmless to humans.
