Description

Remarkably, the male carries a complex internal fertilisation organ (priapium) beneath the throat, formed from modified fins and bones. It schools near the water surface of quiet streams and estuaries and gives birth to live young. It feeds on small zooplankton. The fish is harmless to humans. The IUCN has not evaluated the species.
