Description
Doederlein's cardinalfish is a small reef fish of the cardinalfish family (Apogonidae) from the western Pacific. The species grows to about 14 cm and has a pale body with several dark longitudinal stripes and large eyes. It commonly occurs in rocky areas near shore and is abundant on ledges. As a mainly nocturnal hunter it feeds on small zooplankton and small invertebrates, dispersing to forage at night. Like other cardinalfishes the male broods the eggs in its mouth. The species is harmless to humans.
