Description
The ornate licorice gourami is a minuscule labyrinth fish (Osphronemidae) from blackwater streams and peat swamps of Borneo in Southeast Asia. The species grows to only about 3 cm and has a slender, dark body that in courting males lights up with red-blue fins and a finely marked tail. With a labyrinth organ it can gulp air in oxygen-poor water. As a shy fish it shelters among leaf litter and roots and eats tiny invertebrates. The fish is harmless to humans.
