Description
The spotted snake eel is a large snake eel (Ophichthidae) from coastal waters of the Atlantic. The species grows to about 2 metres and has a slender, yellowish, snake-shaped body with two rows of round dark spots and a pointed, hard tail tip with which it burrows backwards into the sediment. As a bottom-dweller it lies buried by day and hunts small fish, crustaceans and molluscs. The fish poses no danger to humans.
