Description

It inhabits rocky intertidal zones along the coast, where it stays in the surf. With a specialised mouth it scrapes algae and growth from the rocks, together with the associated fine organic matter. Mullets form schools and are an important link between plant matter and higher levels of the food web. The species is harmless to humans.
