Description
The banner goby is a small goby (Gobiidae) from shallow sand and mud water of the western Atlantic and Caribbean. The species grows to about 6 cm and has a slender, pale, semi-translucent body with a bluish sheen and an extended, banner-like first dorsal fin. As a bottom-dweller it stays near self-dug burrows on soft bottoms of bays and estuaries and snaps at small crustaceans and worms. The fish is harmless to humans.
