Description

The Xingu tetra is a small characin (Characidae) from fresh water of the Xingu basin in the Amazon region of Brazil. The species grows to about 3 cm and has a slender, partly translucent, silvery body with fine dark markings. As a schooling fish it swims in clear rivers and streams and eats small insects, larvae and plankton. The fish is harmless to humans.
