Description

The Candy basslet is a small seabass or basslet (Serranidae) from reef water of the western Atlantic and Caribbean. The species grows to about 8 cm and has an elongate, orange-red with purple and yellow longitudinal stripes body. As a shy, nocturnal bottom-dweller it hides deep in coral crevices, caves and under overhangs and snaps at small crustaceans and small fish. Like many seabasses it is a hermaphrodite. The fish is harmless to humans.
