The largescaled spinycheek sleeper is a sleeper (Eleotridae) from the western Atlantic Ocean. The species has a stocky, dark-brown body with a flattened head and a spine on the gill cover. It is notably salt-tolerant and occurs from fresh water to very salty (hypersaline) environments. It lives bottom-bound and hides by day among roots, stones and leaf litter in estuaries and coastal streams. As an ambush hunter it takes small fishes and invertebrates. The species is harmless to humans.
