The Meunier's tetra (Jupiaba meunieri) is a freshwater fish of the family Characidae that grows up to 9 cm.
Description
Meunier's tetra is a small freshwater characin of the family Characidae from the Guianas in South America. The species grows to about 9 cm and has a slender, silvery body. It occurs in the middle and upper reaches of rivers and prefers fast-flowing water of rivers and creeks with a sandy and rocky bottom. As an omnivore it feeds on small invertebrates, insects and plant matter. Tetras usually live in schools, which provides protection from predators. Owing to its small size the species has no fishery value and is harmless to humans.
