Description

The armoured stickleback is a minute, peculiar fish (Indostomidae) from fresh water of Myanmar in Southeast Asia. The species stays about 3 cm long and has a slender, bony-ringed, armoured, brownish body with separate dorsal spinelets and a tubular snout, and is related to the pipefishes and sticklebacks. As a slow bottom-dweller it lives among water plants of quiet waters and snaps at very small invertebrates. The fish is harmless to humans.
