Description

The Buenos Aires tetra is a South American characin or tetra (Characidae) from fresh water of the Parana, Paraguay and Uruguay basins in South America. The species grows to about 7 cm and has a slender, silvery body with reddish fins and a dark tail-base spot body. As a lively schooling fish it swims in clear streams, rivers and plant-rich pools and eats small insects, larvae, crustaceans and plant material. The fish is harmless to humans and is popular in the aquarium trade.
