Description
The blackcap basslet is a small bass of the family Grammatidae from the western Atlantic and the Caribbean. The species grows to about 10 cm and has a bright purple-pink body with a conspicuous black cap over the upper head and back, to which the name refers. It is a solitary species of nearly vertical reef walls and steep drop-offs beyond the outer reefs, where it often moves upside down along the ceiling and darts into recesses when alarmed. It feeds on zooplankton. The species is harmless to humans.
