Description
The ornate ghost pipefish is a ghost pipefish (Solenostomidae) from the Indo-West Pacific. The species has a translucent body covered with skin filaments and colour spots that make it invisible among feather stars, corals and weed. Adults stay along reef edges in areas with current. With its tube-shaped snout it sucks up small zooplankton and small crustaceans. Unlike in pipefishes, here the female carries the eggs, in a pouch of her pelvic fins. The species is harmless to humans.
