Description

The southern crested weedfish is a weedfish (Clinidae) from the waters around southern Australia. The species has an elongate, laterally compressed body with an erect crest at the front of the dorsal fin and a colour varying from green to brown or yellow, matched to the weed. It lives among weeds and seagrass, from the intertidal zone to about thirty metres. As a bottom hunter it snaps small crustaceans and invertebrates. It is livebearing. The species is harmless to humans.
