Description
The splendid perch is a colourful perch-like fish of the family Callanthiidae from the temperate waters around southern Australia. The species grows to about 49 cm and has a streamlined, pink to yellow-red body with yellow tints and elongated tail-fin tips. It is a schooling species that swims above rocky reefs and crevices by day and seeks shelter in caves and gullies at night. As a plankton feeder it feeds on zooplankton picked from the water column.
