Description

The Mekong bumblebee goby is a very small goby (Gobiidae) from shallow fresh and brackish water of the Mekong basin in Southeast Asia. The species grows to about 3-4 cm and has a stocky, yellow-gold body with broad black crossbars, like a bumblebee, and fused pelvic fins forming a sucker. As a bottom-dweller it shelters among roots, plants and stones and snaps at small crustaceans and larvae. The fish is harmless to humans and is popular in the aquarium trade.
