Description
The Birdi loach is a botiid loach (Botiidae) from clear, flowing rivers of the Indus drainage in South Asia. The species grows to about 19 cm and has an elongate, silvery body with dark crossbars and barbels. As a bottom-dweller it lives in groups and searches for snails, insect larvae and small invertebrates. Below the eye it carries an erectable spine that can prick; otherwise the fish is harmless to humans.
