Description

The soldier croaker is a croaker (Sciaenidae) from the Indo-West Pacific. The species has an elongate, silvery body with a bronze sheen. Like other croakers it can produce drumming sounds with its swim bladder. Adults live in shallow coastal waters and estuaries; juveniles grow up in brackish estuaries and often enter rivers. As a predator it hunts small fishes, shrimps and other crustaceans. It is a food fish. The species is harmless to humans.
