Description

The false corydoras is a small armoured catfish (Callichthyidae) from fresh water of the Araguaia and Rio Negro region in Brazil. The species grows to about 3 cm and has a stocky body with two rows of bony plates and a marbled pattern. As a bottom-dweller it probes soft sand with its barbels in groups for worms, crustaceans and insect larvae. The fish is harmless to humans and is prized in the aquarium trade.
