The Sheep pacu (Acnodon oligacanthus) is a freshwater fish of the family Serrasalmidae that grows up to 20 cm.
Description
The sheep pacu is a freshwater characin of the family Serrasalmidae from northeastern South America, related to the pacus and piranhas. The species grows to about 20 cm and has a deep, strongly compressed and silvery body. Unlike its predatory relatives it is mainly a plant-eater: with its inferior mouth it grazes water plants and eats fruits and seeds from the bottom. The size of its eyes points to a crepuscular lifestyle. The species lives in flowing waters and is harmless to humans.
